, and in general Adhesive Transfer Tape, is a tape that is unsupported by a carrier or backing (like film, paper or cloth). It is basically just pressure-sensitive adhesive pre-applied to a special release liner. Leading ATG tape brands include JVCC, 3M Scotch and Scapa.
Special considerations to keep in mind when purchasing Adhesive Transfer Gun (ATG) tape is that the rolls reverse wound; the release liner is on the underside of the tape when it is unwound from the roll; so it requires the use of an ATG dispenser to apply it. Rolls are also wound on a plastic core which allows them to easily snap in to an ATG dispenser.
We carry ATG dispensers from both 3M and JVCC. These dispensers or applicators are specifically designed to accept ATG refill rolls and make the application process much smoother and quicker.
So, what are ATG tapes used for? ATG tapes are used for picture framing, scrapbooking, graphic arts application, photo mounting, exhibit & POP displays, promotional product and poster assembly, and designing & packaging prototypes. The tapes used for this purpose have good adhesion to most plastic films, paper, and metal foils. The ATG tapes which are used for photo mounting and scrapbooking are typically pH or acid neutral (pH 7, acid free) and are designed to not yellow over time. Examples of acid-free ATG tape include 3M Scotch 908 ATG Gold Tape and JVCC ATG-7502 ATG Tape.
