Special considerations to keep in mind when purchasing Adhesive Transfer Gun (ATG) tape is that it is reverse wound; the release liner is on the underside of the tape when it is unwound from the roll; so it requires the use of an ATG dispenser to apply it. Also rolls are wound on a plastic core which allows them to easily snap in to an ATG dispenser.
ATG tapes are used for picture framing, scrapbooking, graphic arts application, photo mounting, exhibit & POP displays, product assembly, and designing & packaging prototypes. The tapes used for this purpose have good adhesion to most plastic films, paper, and metal foils.
The ATG tapes which are used for photo mounting and scrapbooking are typically pH or acid neutral (pH 7, acid free) and are designed to not yellow over time. Examples of acid-free ATG tape include 3M Scotch 908 ATG Gold Tape and JVCC ATG-7502 ATG Tape.
ATG tape can also be used to create strong bonds with glass, wood, metals, paint, and most plastics. The 3M Scotch 924 ATG tape is all-purpose transfer tape that provides great adhesion to most materials. It is therefore great for assembling promotional items and posters. 3M Scotch 924 ATG tape is characterized by solvent resistance and UV resistance.
