Product Description

For a very strong multi-purpose duct tape with excellent adhesion, use Polyken 223 Multi-Purpose Duct Tape. It offers good tensile strength and superior adhesive qualities to many kinds of surfaces. It conforms to various shapes and won't curl or twist during application. Polyken 223 also has a low volatile organic compound (VOC) content, making it ideal for organizations trying to conform to the LEED® specification of EQ Credit 4.1 (Low Emitting Materials). It is tested to meet the standards outlined in UL 723.

QUESTION: can I use this tape for the top of my deck handrails?

ANSWER: Polyken 223 is a standard polyethylene-coated duct tape so does have a waterproof backing, but if the adhesive underside of the tape gets wet the tape typically comes away over time. The tape we sell more often for deck handrails would be the HGT Handrail Grip Tape (see https://www.findtape.com/p1071/). That product is coated with an acrylic adhesive that offers better UV and moisture resistance. Thank you.
