Product Description

3M 4910 VHB Tape is excellent for double-sided applications where clear or colorless is desired. The general purpose adhesive on both sides is suitable for high surface energy substrates like glass or metal. Application ideas include sealing between the inner and outer dome of skylights, attaching handles to glass doors, mounting backlit translucent signs and edge bonding resin filled glass.

3M VHB Tape provides the convenience and simplicity of a tape fastener and are ideal for use in many interior and exterior structural bonding applications. In many situations, they can replace rivets, spot welds, liquid adhesives, and other permanent fasteners. These VHB tapes are made with an acrylic foam which is viscoelastic in nature. This gives the foam energy absorbing and stress relaxing properties which provides these tapes with their unique characteristics. The acrylic chemistry provides outstanding durability performance and the tapes have excellent durability and excellent solvent and moisture resistance. See http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Adhesives/Tapes/Brands/3M-VHB-Tape/ for videos showcasing the properties of VHB tape.

* Multiple cases may be shipped per package in order to minimize the charge for shipping.

QUESTION: How well will this bond to acrylic wall panels?
ANSWER: We don't have any direct experience with the tape being used on acrylic wall panels, but please see https://static.findtape.com/specifications/3M-VHB-Surface-Prep.pdf for information from 3M on adhering VHB tapes to different surface types. I hope this helps. Thank you.

QUESTION: How clear is this tape once it is applied? Can I see through it without optical distortion?
ANSWER: It is clear. But because of the thickness of the tape, there is some optical distortion.

QUESTION: Will this hold stained wood to drywall?
ANSWER: It should. I have it holding a small (12x18 inch) bulletin board to a painted cinderblock wall. It has held for more than 10 years. It's also holding small stained wood picture frames to the same cinderblock wall.

Helped me out in a bind
3M 4910 VHB Tape [40 mil / transparent]
After messing up an accessory installation on my motorcycle I had to hunt for a good 3 m product. Couldn't find anything in town so went to the net. I found what I wanted and emailed in an order

Do not know at this time. At the moment I have not used
3M 4910 VHB Tape [40 mil / transparent]
I have not yet used the tape for the reason I purchased it. I tried to stick a one inch wide metal strip to my screen door. It fell off. I purchased the tape to install 4x8 ceiling panels of imitation wood. Panels weigh about 10lbs. earh. The tape seems to be very thin. It is difficult to peal off he second side of the tape. I had hoped to supplement the tape with liquid nails on the corners. I am waiting for a new roof to be placed on my home as the ceiling to be repaired was damaged in a rain storm. The present panels were damaged. I saw an ad on TV for your tape. I may have selected the wrong tape for this job. Time will tell when a try to glue the panels to existing panels. The room is 20x20 feet. ?????

Expensive but worth every penny
3M 4910 VHB Tape [40 mil / transparent]
We used this tape to bond our brass handles and other door hardware to our new glass doors. Works great if you follow the instructions - don't just stick it on and think your done like we did the first time! Clamp them on and let them set and then the magic happens and your stuff is bonded on there like it was screwed on.

Incredible bond strength
3M 4910 VHB Tape [40 mil / transparent]
We needed something to bond our new brass fittings to our glass doors and this did it! I was told by my boss it would, but I didn't believe a simple tape could be so strong. Once the 24 hour bonding period ended and we removed the clamps - holy @X@%@! It's on there now!
Made in the USA
hot melt rubber (synthetic)
Offers the widest range of application flexibility available. Exhibits excellent processing performance whether manually or automatically applied. Has superior tensile strength, adhesion properties and holding force which ensures consistent, reliable seals. Hot melt adhesive will bond faster to a surface which is referred to as quick-grab or quick-stick. It typically has higher tack (will feel stickier to the touch), but is also softer. It has lower heat resistance, shear resistance, and sometimes UV resistance than an acrylic adhesive. NOTE: it is called hot melt because the adhesive is applied hot by the manufacturer and then hardens as it cools (you do not need to apply heat to the tape yourself).
natural rubber
Properties are similar to that of hot melt rubber, but natural rubber often holds where other adhesives won't (recycled fibers, dust, cold, heat and heavy loads). It provides good overall adhesion and moisture resistance.
acrylic
Offer excellent performance, especially for applications in temperatures less than 40°F and greater then 120°F. It provides excellent clarity, has high shear strength, is usually more permanent/durable even when exposed to moisture, and it ages well over extended periods in fluorescent and sunlight. Since it remains clear for the life of the application and does not yellow over time it is ideal for applications such as sealing white cartons. While it has good initial adhesion it does take 24-48 hours to cure and to achieve its maximum bond strength (has gradual adhesion buildup). Another difference between hot melt rubber and acrylic adhesive is if you fold tape over making the two adhesive sides touch the acrylic adhesive will remain attached to the carrier (e.g. paper, film) while a hot melt adhesive will stick to itself and pull off of the carrier. It is the best choice for clarity, UV resistance and aging characteristics.
silicone
Is great for extreme temperature applications since silicone adhesive can work in continuous operating temperatures from -100°F to 500°F. They also exhibit good chemical resistance, retain electrical properties, and remove cleanly with little or no residue.
zinc oxide
Zinc oxide based adhesive formula is a skin-friendly adhesive which is commonly used on sports medicine tapes.
Thickness, AKA caliper or gauge, refers to the distance from one surface of a tape backing, or adhesive, to the other.
1 mil = 1/1000 of an inch
Examples: 1/16 inch = 62.5 mils; 1/32 inch = 31.25 mils
The cut level indicates how many grams of cutting load a glove can withstand from a sharp blade before being penetrated.
Lower gauge gloves are heavier - have thicker construction, fewer stiches knitted per inch and offer less dexterity.
Higher gauge gloves are lighter - have thinner/finer construction, more stitches knitted per inch and offer more dexterity.
Gloves offered typically runs from 7 to 18 (12 and 13 are in the middle of the scale).
