'Oralite M82' is out of stock and not currently available for purchase on the site. Please note Orafol, the manufacturer of SOLAS, will now only sell it on 6 inch inside diameter cores now which makes it very difficult for the user. The converting process now involves rewinding the 30 inch x 150 yard rolls onto a user friendly 30 inch wide by 3 inch inside diameter core and then lathe slitting the rolls. The liner is a rigid paper while the reflective material is flexible and since there is no exposed adhesive there is a lot of lateral movement/sliding during the process. In order to keep this under control our converter now has to epoxy the ends of the log rolls which sometimes leaves air pockets trapped inside. This can cause gaping in the finished rolls. While this affects the visible appearance of the roll it should not affect the performance of the tape.

Oralite IMO/SOLAS M82 Marine Microprismatic Retroreflective Conspicuity Tape is a tough weather and solvent resistant product designed for rugged outdoor maritime use. Oralite is the Oracal Group's new brand name for Reflexite. It is compliant with U.S. Department of Transportation specification USCG 46 CFR, section 164.018 and International Maritime Organization (IMO) Resolution A.658(16). The approval is for Type I and Type II.
IMO/SOLAS (Safety Of Life At Sea) M82 reflective material is composed of cube corner (microprism) retroreflective elements integrally bonded to a flexible, smooth-surfaced tough and weather resistant UV stabilized polymeric film. The prism surfaces are to provide a mirror surface to the prism facets. The resulting film is not more than 0.008 inch thick, and comes coated with an aggressive pressure sensitive adhesive. Designed to withstand the marine environment, M82 survives continuous immersion in seawater, sub-freezing temperatures, and intense exposure to sunlight, guano and harsh weather. Ideal for rigid and flexible applications such as dayboards, buoys and channel markers, boat striping.
High-brightness Oralite material is visible at distances of more than one kilometer. Photos of SOLAS are taken with a flash camera in order to show the reflectivity of the tape; the color of the tape will be much darker if a high intensity light source (like the flash from a camera or car headlights) are not being directed at the tape from an angle. Rolls ship on a plain white core since cut from log roll material.

Oralite M82 Marine Microprismatic Conspicuity Tape [SOLAS]
The one inch Sola conspicuity tape proved to be highly effective low light/night safety striping for my horse trailer. Although subtle gray in daylight, it is electric bright in headlights. If the trailer lights should ever fail, the trailer will still be dazzlingly lit. Easy to apply. The 4 star rating rather than 5 is because the wrinkles that came in it while on the roll did not smooth out in application.
hot melt rubber (synthetic)
Offers the widest range of application flexibility available. Exhibits excellent processing performance whether manually or automatically applied. Has superior tensile strength, adhesion properties and holding force which ensures consistent, reliable seals. Hot melt adhesive will bond faster to a surface which is referred to as quick-grab or quick-stick. It typically has higher tack (will feel stickier to the touch), but is also softer. It has lower heat resistance, shear resistance, and sometimes UV resistance than an acrylic adhesive. NOTE: it is called hot melt because the adhesive is applied hot by the manufacturer and then hardens as it cools (you do not need to apply heat to the tape yourself).
natural rubber
Properties are similar to that of hot melt rubber, but natural rubber often holds where other adhesives won't (recycled fibers, dust, cold, heat and heavy loads). It provides good overall adhesion and moisture resistance.
acrylic
Offer excellent performance, especially for applications in temperatures less than 40°F and greater then 120°F. It provides excellent clarity, has high shear strength, is usually more permanent/durable even when exposed to moisture, and it ages well over extended periods in fluorescent and sunlight. Since it remains clear for the life of the application and does not yellow over time it is ideal for applications such as sealing white cartons. While it has good initial adhesion it does take 24-48 hours to cure and to achieve its maximum bond strength (has gradual adhesion buildup). Another difference between hot melt rubber and acrylic adhesive is if you fold tape over making the two adhesive sides touch the acrylic adhesive will remain attached to the carrier (e.g. paper, film) while a hot melt adhesive will stick to itself and pull off of the carrier. It is the best choice for clarity, UV resistance and aging characteristics.
silicone
Is great for extreme temperature applications since silicone adhesive can work in continuous operating temperatures from -100°F to 500°F. They also exhibit good chemical resistance, retain electrical properties, and remove cleanly with little or no residue.
zinc oxide
Zinc oxide based adhesive formula is a skin-friendly adhesive which is commonly used on sports medicine tapes.
Thickness, AKA caliper or gauge, refers to the distance from one surface of a tape backing, or adhesive, to the other.
1 mil = 1/1000 of an inch
Examples: 1/16 inch = 62.5 mils; 1/32 inch = 31.25 mils
Lower gauge gloves are heavier - have thicker construction, fewer stiches knitted per inch and offer less dexterity.
Higher gauge gloves are lighter - have thinner/finer construction, more stitches knitted per inch and offer more dexterity.
Gloves offered typically runs from 7 to 18 (12 and 13 are in the middle of the scale).
