Friction Tape

Cohesive fractioned cloth tape, also known as friction tape, is a cloth tape that is frictioned on both sides with adhesive marking for excellent cohesion. It's commonly used as a secondary wrap for electrical maintenance and spot-holding on wire harnesses, but can be used in many environments where you want to enhance friction or grip. For example, many people use this type of tape on hockey stick blades for better puck control.

Friction tape is designated as a co-adhesive tape because both sides of the tape are sticky, allowing it to stick to other surfaces but not itself.

Product Applications:
  • Electrical insulation
  • Wire harnesses
  • Spot holding
  • Secondary wrapping
  • Improving puck control on hockey stick blades
  • Improving grip on handlebars
  • Improving grip on baseball or softball bats
  • Taping sword handles
  • Improving grip on axes, machetes, hammers and other tools
Friction tape is ideal as an electrical insulator and it protects from corrosion and liquids. The friction is from the rubber adhesive that is used on the cloth material. Friction tape is typically only available in black and is hand-tearable. One of the most popular types of friction tape we carry at FindTape is the Jaybird & Mais 310 Black Friction Blade Tape, also known as "Gordie Howe" tape. The tape got its name because famous NHL player Gordie Howe often used it to add better puck control to his hockey stick.

Since this type of tape is frictioned on both sides with adhesive, it can be thought of as a double-sided cloth tape. Friction tape uses are endless - from electrical wire protection to improved grip. Still deciding on friction tape vs. electrical tape? Frictional tape is a type of electrical tape, but the primary facet of friction tape is that it's frictioned on both sides, so it sticks to itself but no other surfaces. Traditional electrical tape sticks to other surfaces. FindTape.com is happy to help you find the appropriate tape for your specific needs.
