3M Specialty Adhesive Remover Aerosol Spray (38987) is a strong, solvent-based aerosol formulated to soften and lift cured reactive adhesives that ordinary residue cleaners struggle with. Reactive adhesives are those that need a hardener or catalyst to bond, including epoxies, urethanes and silicones, and once cured they resist most mild cleaners. 3M designed this remover for exactly those bonds, with a spray-on delivery that reaches into seams, edges and textured surfaces for even coverage.
The formula is a blend of acetone, light aliphatic naphtha and xylene, which gives it fast action on stubborn adhesive, sealant and overspray. It is used across automotive, marine, sign, industrial maintenance and shop settings on metal, glass and many other hard substrates. FindTape customers report good results breaking down old, cracked tape on vehicles, lifting registration decal residue from an aluminum boat hull, cleaning adhesive from rubber, and removing light paint overspray. It is not intended for heavy paint buildup.

Usage Notes
This is an aggressive solvent. Always test on an inconspicuous area first, since it can soften some plastics, uncured coatings and rubber gaskets. Use only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area, keep away from heat, sparks and open flame, and wear solvent-resistant gloves and eye protection. Do not store above 122°F. 3M positions this remover for cured reactive adhesives; for everyday pressure-sensitive residue from tapes, labels and decals, a general purpose adhesive cleaner is usually the gentler choice.

Instructions
- Test on an inconspicuous area first to confirm the surface is not affected.
- Work only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area away from heat, sparks and open flame. Wear solvent-resistant gloves and eye protection.
- Remove as much bulk adhesive as possible mechanically with a plastic scraper.
- Shake the can and spray a light, even coat directly onto the remaining adhesive.
- Allow the remover to dwell for a few minutes so it can penetrate and soften the adhesive.
- Wipe away the softened adhesive with a clean cloth or lift it with a scraper.
- Repeat on stubborn areas as needed.
- Clean the surface with soap and water or a mild cleaner before repainting or reapplying adhesive.
