Product Description
3M 5952 Heavy Duty Mounting VHB Tape is a double-coated black VHB adhesive tape that has an acrylic foam core. This double-coated tape has a modified acrylic adhesive on both sides of this 3M foam tape, which is highly conformable while providing exceptional adhesion to a wide range of surfaces and substrates. This includes most powder coated paints. 3M VHB mounting tape comes on a red film release liner for high visibility.
3M 5952 double-sided tape (heavy duty 45-mil) gives you the simplicity and ease of a tape fastener and is perfect for many indoor and outdoor bonding applications. 3M double-sided tape (automotive, heavy-duty applications) can, in many cases, replace liquid adhesives, rivets, spot welds and other permanent fasteners.

About the Acrylic Foam
These VHB tapes are constructed with special viscoelastic acrylic foam, which gives the foam the ability to absorb energy, in addition to stress relaxing properties. QUESTION: Is the tape water resistant? I am looking to fit a soap dispenser to a tiled wall in a shower. What do you think?
ANSWER: It seems to be. I bought it to hold the trim on my truck and it is outside in the weather all the time. We had a very rainy winter and it seems to be holding just fine. Also, a roll will last a long time, so even if you have to reapply it, it still would be very economical.

Flexible Solar Panel Installation
3M 5952 VHB Tape [45 mil / heavy duty mounting]
I'm installing a couple of flexible solar panels on the roof of my F-350. I bought 2 rolls and so far have installed one. The tape was very well packaged and was shipped very fast. The tape has held the solar panel strong on the roof and panel has survived freeway speeds. You need to make sure that the item you are adhering is position exactly how you want it because the tape won't let go. I will order more from Find-Tape. They have the best prices.

Tape hard to cut clean.

Tape hard to cut clean. It sticks to the cutter and distorts the end. Also difficult to remove the cover tape. It did pass my shear test so far.

I used this VHB tape to attach my solar panels to the roof of my camper. I had heard of people doing it, but I would admit that until I did it myself, I had doubts. Not anymore! If surfaces are prepared following the manufacturer's instructions, this tap creates a really strong bond. So strong that you will have only one shot at it. As soon as the tape enters in contact with the surface in question, there is no removing/readjusting possible. It's on for good. Keep that in mind. I now wish I had an extra set of hands. Read infos on 3M website for details. The 3M tape sold on Findtape.com is of great quality, real 3M. Very well repackage. Perfect for someone needing smaller quantities. I would buy again for sure!

I mounted metal sign to a glass door
3M 5952 VHB Tape [45 mil / heavy duty mounting]
I needed to bond a metal sign to a glass door. The properties of this adhesive are ideal for this and will buy this tape again. It worked great and I do not have to worry about it falling off. There is a cool video on youtube where they pull a train with this tape!
hot melt rubber (synthetic)
Offers the widest range of application flexibility available. Exhibits excellent processing performance whether manually or automatically applied. Has superior tensile strength, adhesion properties and holding force which ensures consistent, reliable seals. Hot melt adhesive will bond faster to a surface which is referred to as quick-grab or quick-stick. It typically has higher tack (will feel stickier to the touch), but is also softer. It has lower heat resistance, shear resistance, and sometimes UV resistance than an acrylic adhesive. NOTE: it is called hot melt because the adhesive is applied hot by the manufacturer and then hardens as it cools (you do not need to apply heat to the tape yourself).
natural rubber
Properties are similar to that of hot melt rubber, but natural rubber often holds where other adhesives won't (recycled fibers, dust, cold, heat and heavy loads). It provides good overall adhesion and moisture resistance.
acrylic
Offer excellent performance, especially for applications in temperatures less than 40°F and greater then 120°F. It provides excellent clarity, has high shear strength, is usually more permanent/durable even when exposed to moisture, and it ages well over extended periods in fluorescent and sunlight. Since it remains clear for the life of the application and does not yellow over time it is ideal for applications such as sealing white cartons. While it has good initial adhesion it does take 24-48 hours to cure and to achieve its maximum bond strength (has gradual adhesion buildup). Another difference between hot melt rubber and acrylic adhesive is if you fold tape over making the two adhesive sides touch the acrylic adhesive will remain attached to the carrier (e.g. paper, film) while a hot melt adhesive will stick to itself and pull off of the carrier. It is the best choice for clarity, UV resistance and aging characteristics.
silicone
Is great for extreme temperature applications since silicone adhesive can work in continuous operating temperatures from -100°F to 500°F. They also exhibit good chemical resistance, retain electrical properties, and remove cleanly with little or no residue.
zinc oxide
Zinc oxide based adhesive formula is a skin-friendly adhesive which is commonly used on sports medicine tapes.
Thickness, AKA caliper or gauge, refers to the distance from one surface of a tape backing, or adhesive, to the other.
1 mil = 1/1000 of an inch
Examples: 1/16 inch = 62.5 mils; 1/32 inch = 31.25 mils
Lower gauge gloves are heavier - have thicker construction, fewer stiches knitted per inch and offer less dexterity.
Higher gauge gloves are lighter - have thinner/finer construction, more stitches knitted per inch and offer more dexterity.
Gloves offered typically runs from 7 to 18 (12 and 13 are in the middle of the scale).
