Product Description

ISC Helicopter-OG-HD Heavy Duty Surface Guard Tape is conformable and extremely strong 14-mil outdoor grade polyurethane tape. Also known as helicopter blade/leading edge wing tape, the thick film backing provides exceptional protection from tearing, punctures, erosion, and abrasion. ISC's surface guard tape also protects against extreme temperatures, ultraviolet light, and automotive solvents. The tape is clear (transparent) and comes on a white paper, 92-pound polycoated release liner.

QUESTION: Can you remove this tape from a painted surface if needed?
ANSWER: ISC Helicopter-OG-HD tape offers very strong adhesion since designed to adhere well to moving vehicles. It typically removes fine from most powder-coated paints, but ISC recommends testing first on an inconspicuous part of the paint to make sure it removes as desired. Thank you.

QUESTION: What's the flame rating of this polyurethane 14 mil helicopter tape? Is it at least HB?
ANSWER: I don’t believe ISC’s Helicopter-OG-HD tape has any type of flame retardancy rating. They would typically market it like that if it did. You can always inquire with them directly at http://www.racerstape.com/rtc.html though to see if they just don’t include that in their data sheet for the tape.FindTape.com

ISC Helicopter-OG-HD Surface Guard Tape [14 mil Heavy Duty Outdoor Grade]
I used this tape for wheel well molding (unconventional but a good way to protect the paint) on a new Ford F350 truck. 2” tape was easy to apply. Had good adhesive, and was easy to mold around the curves. The only short coming was my use of a common knife and box cutter to cut the trim off. This tape is super thick(14 mil), and I should have anticipated using a couple of one sided razor blades or a surgeons scalpel. I will report back in 6 months with an update...but the @$50 investment (tape and shipping) was well spent.

This product is used on "Helmet Lock Brackets" I design and manufacture. It goes in-between the frame and bracket to protect the frame from marring. This stuff is tough. Tried to trim it with a scalpel and it would barely cut. It can take gentle curves but not anrupt ones without cutting notches. Not sure about the glue yet as it hasn't been on my kayaks veey long.

I used this tape to protect the edge of a wooden coffee table where people tend to prop their feet. It stuck well and is totally invisible. I carefully peeled off the paper backing as I applied the tape and the tape did stretch a little, about 1.5 inches over a 48 inch application. Not too bad. It is completely clear and invisible, looks great! I will use the remaining portion to protect my SUV's rear bumper from sctatches. Expensive but worth it.

We use the 14 mil by 3" wide tape on rental sups and it is a must. Far superior to the cheaper 8 mil tape the sup companies push. Thicker wider tape means better protection. Good stuff but takes a few boards to perfect the method so end product lucks professional

read about this tape from a blog from down under...was looking for a quality tape for preventing dings in my new standup paddle board. and found this site from a local paddler, he recommended to wet the surface before applying as the adhesive is very strong, i used dawn liquid detergent in a spray bottle to wet down my edges and then used a credit card to apply and remove any bubbles that formed under the tape, came out looking great, wish i could include a photo! the tape seems to be working very well, as i just got a new paddle that is very tempramental, and am so glad i applied this tape on my rails to prevent any more dings!my only complaimnt i can come up with is it is very expensive! but worth it in the long run

hot melt rubber (synthetic)
Offers the widest range of application flexibility available. Exhibits excellent processing performance whether manually or automatically applied. Has superior tensile strength, adhesion properties and holding force which ensures consistent, reliable seals. Hot melt adhesive will bond faster to a surface which is referred to as quick-grab or quick-stick. It typically has higher tack (will feel stickier to the touch), but is also softer. It has lower heat resistance, shear resistance, and sometimes UV resistance than an acrylic adhesive. NOTE: it is called hot melt because the adhesive is applied hot by the manufacturer and then hardens as it cools (you do not need to apply heat to the tape yourself).
natural rubber
Properties are similar to that of hot melt rubber, but natural rubber often holds where other adhesives won't (recycled fibers, dust, cold, heat and heavy loads). It provides good overall adhesion and moisture resistance.
acrylic
Offer excellent performance, especially for applications in temperatures less than 40°F and greater then 120°F. It provides excellent clarity, has high shear strength, is usually more permanent/durable even when exposed to moisture, and it ages well over extended periods in fluorescent and sunlight. Since it remains clear for the life of the application and does not yellow over time it is ideal for applications such as sealing white cartons. While it has good initial adhesion it does take 24-48 hours to cure and to achieve its maximum bond strength (has gradual adhesion buildup). Another difference between hot melt rubber and acrylic adhesive is if you fold tape over making the two adhesive sides touch the acrylic adhesive will remain attached to the carrier (e.g. paper, film) while a hot melt adhesive will stick to itself and pull off of the carrier. It is the best choice for clarity, UV resistance and aging characteristics.

Is great for extreme temperature applications since silicone adhesive can work in continuous operating temperatures from -100°F to 500°F. They also exhibit good chemical resistance, retain electrical properties, and remove cleanly with little or no residue.
zinc oxide
Zinc oxide based adhesive formula is a skin-friendly adhesive which is commonly used on sports medicine tapes.
Thickness, AKA caliper or gauge, refers to the distance from one surface of a tape backing, or adhesive, to the other.
1 mil = 1/1000 of an inch
Examples: 1/16 inch = 62.5 mils; 1/32 inch = 31.25 mils
The cut level indicates how many grams of cutting load a glove can withstand from a sharp blade before being penetrated.
Lower gauge gloves are heavier - have thicker construction, fewer stiches knitted per inch and offer less dexterity.
Higher gauge gloves are lighter - have thinner/finer construction, more stitches knitted per inch and offer more dexterity.
Gloves offered typically runs from 7 to 18 (12 and 13 are in the middle of the scale).
