Product Description

JVCC FELT-K1 Kevlar Felt Tape is an adhesive-backed needle felt made from 100% para-aramid synthetic fiber. Para-aramid is the high-tenacity, high-modulus branch of the aramid family, which is why this felt resists cutting and abrasion far better than a conventional felt of the same thickness while also holding up to heat.

At 1/8 in. thick it works as a sacrificial wear layer, a cut-resistant liner and a high-temperature gasket in places where a polyester or acrylic felt would be shredded or scorched. The adhesive backing means it can be applied directly to tooling, fixtures, guarding and equipment surfaces without sewing, clamping or a separate bonding step.

Sizes

Stocked in 1/2 in., 1 in. and 4 in. widths, all on 25 ft. rolls with a 3 in. diameter core, in light yellow. Note that 25 ft. and 300 in. are the same length, so listings quoting 300 in. refer to this same roll. Other widths can be special ordered by the case.

What To Expect

This tape is rated to 350°F. The para-aramid fiber itself has no melting point and tolerates far more than that, so the adhesive is the limiting component, exactly as it is on any pressure sensitive tape. Treat 350°F as the ceiling for the tape as an assembly and expect sustained heat at or near that figure to shorten adhesive life well before the felt is affected. If heat resistance rather than cut resistance is your main requirement, our JVCC FELT-N1 Nomex Felt Tape is rated higher at 400°F and costs considerably less.

Para-aramid fiber is sensitive to prolonged ultraviolet exposure and will lose strength over time in direct sunlight, so this is not the right choice for a permanent outdoor installation without a cover layer. Apply to a surface that is clean, dry and free of grease, dirt or other contaminants.

One point worth being clear about: para-aramid fiber is used in ballistic and protective equipment, but this product is an adhesive-backed felt tape and carries no ballistic, cut level or protective equipment rating of any kind. Do not specify it as protective equipment. If you need a rated material, buy a rated product.
